Tyler Kinsky grew up in Central Massachusetts, studying trombone since the age of 10. As his studies in music developed, he took a special interest in Jazz and Big Band, soon making those ensembles his primary focus. Throughout middle and high school, the districts and All-State audition process served as a challenge and opportunity for development, and by the start of his Senior year Tyler had reached the Massachusetts All-State Jazz Ensemble twice, and the NAfME All-National Jazz Ensemble once. The COVID-19 Pandemic abruptly interrupted his junior and senior year, but also served as an opportunity to build his skills in video and audio editing, critical tools for creating virtual performances in a time when musicians could not gather together.
For the next step in his musical development, Tyler decided to take his talents to South Beach and attend the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Here, he had the priveledge to study with a star-studded faculty and royalty in the Jazz world, such as Brian Lynch, Shelly Berg Dante Luciani, Etienne Charles, John Daversa, Dafnis Prieto, and Charles Bergeron. His time at Frost also built an appreciation for the vast amount of cultures and genres that exist in the music world, and an understanding that to be a successful musician in today’s world, versatility is key.
Tyler’s career thus far has featured performances with the Frost Jazz Orchestra, Frost Studio Jazz Band, Paul Anka, Etienne Charles, Charles Bergeron, Jason Moran, Marcus Miller, Sean Jones, and Camping on the Moon.
Tyler has performed at various notable venues such as Symphony Hall, The Arsht Center for the Arts, Worcester’s historic Mechanics Hall, and Artis Naples.
